Vision Care Technician
Up one levelPrior to beginning this Career Major, the student must complete the Core Curriculum, Core Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, Core First Aid and Healthcare Provider CPR.
- Opthalmic Practice Front Office
- Students will apply the basic concepts and principles of opthalmic office practices and procedures with entry-level proficiency in the performance of duties in the administrative or front office.
- Contact Lenses and Ophthalmic Dispensing
- In the course instruction and laboratory exercises detailing contact lens types and their appropriate wear and care regimens will be covered. Instruction and laboratory exercises designed to provide student with basic understanding of spectacle lens fabricating, adjusting and dispensing will be covered in the course.
- Vision Care Clinicals
- Students will complete this course as a capstone to their coursework in Vision Care. Students may practice in a variety of settings as chosen by the instructor. Upon completion of this course, students will have experience and skills necessary to become employed in a vision care setting.
- Introduction to Vision Care
- This course will provide an overview of the health care environment including completion of educational requirements, responsibilities, and job duties.
- Ocular Disease and Ocular Pharmacology
- Presentation of the most common ocular abnormalities and disease processes and how they are related to systemic disease will be included in this course. In addition, this course will include presentation of the most common ophthalmic medications and their purpose as well as systemic medications used in the treatment of ocular abnormalities.
- Ocular Anatomy and Physiology
- In this course students will be presented an overview of the major body systems with emphasis placed on the interaction between these systems and ocular anatomy and physiology as well as incorporating basic medical terminology.
- Critical Thinking in the Opthalmic Practice
- This course is designed to incorporate critical thinking in all aspects of ophthalmic office work. Students will identify proper procedures and practice options for optimal patient outcomes.
- Opthalmic Practice: Introduction to the Back Office
- Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to identify safety and legal issues/concerns and medical terminology commonly used in the opthalmic office. Students will understand the use and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.
- Opthalmic Techniques I
- Instruction and laboratory exercises in this course will correlate to basic ocular examination techniques.
- Optics and Vision Correction
- This course includes the study of basic optics and refractive error correction.
- Opthalmic Instrument Maintenance
- Instruction and laboratory exercises in this course will be designed to provide student with basic understanding of care and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment.
- Opthalmic Techniques II
- Instruction and laboratory exercises correlating to more advanced ocular examination techniques and skills will be covered in this course.
