- Orientation to the Pharmacy Technician Career
- This course includes a description and a differentiation between certification, licensure and registration related to the field of Pharmacy Technician, significance of certification and the requirements to maintain certification.
- Legal Issues in the Pharmacy
- Upon completion of this course the student will be able to describe federal laws and legislation that affects the pharmacy industry. In addition, students will describe the filling procedures, state and federal requirements of record keeping and drug substitution requirements.
- Medication Review
- Upon completion of this course you will be able to describe various types of drugs and drug interactions that affect the cardiovascular system, central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, various hormonal drugs and their use. Students will understand various types of drugs and drug interactions in the renal system, interactions that are classified as anti-infection drugs, cancer or chemotherapy drugs. The student will discuss the aspects of blood formation drugs, as well as describe the various vitamins, including their mechanism of action and drug interactions.
- Aseptic Techniques in the Pharmacy
- Upon completion of this course the student will be able describe environmental contamination concerns in performing aseptic techniques in the role of the Pharmacy Technician.
- Pharmacological Calculations
- Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to accurately perform various conversions within the metric, Avirdupois, and Apothecary systems. Students will also accurately describe pharmacy abbreviations.
- Pharmacy Operations
- Upon completion of this course the student will be able to describe aspects of basic pharmacy operations including assisting the pharmacist, general prescription duties, medication distribution and inventory control and third party reimbursement.
- Pharmacy Technician Internship
- Students will utilize the internship to gain experience required in the clinical setting for Pharmacy Technician certification. Students will demonstrate practical application of basic Pharmacy Technician skills in the pharmacy.
