Fitness Specialist

Prior to beginning this Career Major, the student must complete the Core Curriculum, Core Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, Core First Aid and Healthcare Provider CPR.

Introduction to the Fitness Professions
Students will look into the different aspects of the fitness industry and discover career opportunities within the field. Students will learn about the Code of Ethics that fitness personnel must follow and explore the legal guidelines of professional responsibilities that govern the fitness industry.
Exercise Physiology
The students will learn the physiology behind fitness and exercise through kinesiology and biomechanics. Students will be able to obtain client information, test and evaluate current fitness using body fat testing, fitness assessments, as well as strength and conditioning tests. Students will also learn the concepts of nutrition and weight control.
Applied Concepts in Fitness
This course will provide an in-depth look at procedures of strength training, flexibility, cardiovascular conditioning, and how to set up individualized programs for injury prevention and general fitness enhancement. Students will learn exercise techniques, teaching approaches using different types of weights, and techniques that will improve cardiovascular health, strength, and flexibility.
Clinical Practice in Fitness/Health
This course provides students with work based learning experiences. Students will perform skills associated with the fitness professions.
