EMT Basic

Prior to beginning this Career Major, the student must complete the Core Curriculum, Core Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, Core First Aid and Healthcare Provider CPR.

Basic Airway Management
Applies a foundational understanding of anatomy and physiology to patient assessment and management in order to assure a patent airway, adequate mechanical ventilation, and respiration for patients of all ages.
Basic Medical Emergencies
Applies fundamental understanding to provide basic emergency care and transportation based on assessment findings for an acutely ill patient.
Basic Trauma
Applies fundamental understanding to provide basic emergency care and transportation based on assessment findings for an acutely injured patient.
Basic EMT Preceptorship
The Basic EMT preceptorship is a clinical experience based in the hospital or in the field. The purpose of the preceptorship is to provide students with patient contact experience to allow practice of skills in a clinical setting.
Basic Preparatory for the EMT
Applies a fundamental understanding of the EMS system, well being of the EMT, medical/legal and ethical issues to the provision of emergency care.
Basic Care of Special Patient Populations
Applies a fundamental knowledge of growth, development, and aging and assessment findings to provide basic emergency care and transportation for a patient with special needs.

Applies a fundamental knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities to ensure safe and effective response, scene management, and transport.
Basic Patient Assessment
Applies scene information and patient assessment findings (scene size up, primary and secondary assessment, patient history, reassessment) to guide emergency management.
