Up one level- Health Careers II
- Health Careers II builds on knowledge and skills gained in Introduction to Health Careers. This course introduces to health care applications of human systems, adds healthcare related mathematical conversions, measures and calculations and introduces students to medical terminology that supports the course content. Professional characteristics are emphasized along with the more in depth exploration of legal ramifications and ethical practices related to the giving and receiving of healthcare. This course emphasizes personal, environmental safety and common healthcare safety hazards. Additional instruction on participating as a member of a team handling conflict and leadership responsibilities is included in the course. Students learn the procedures for measuring and recording vital signs and finally will increase their computer application skills. Instruction includes project-based research and explorations, healthcare professionals support and participation, on-site job shadows and study tours and presentations, in-class experiments and other hands-on participation.
- Health Careers III
- Health Careers III continues instruction for human systems increasing student understanding of the concepts that provide an understanding of the body in health and disease. Related content on disease and disorders for prevention and treatment add to the students healthcare practices knowledge and skills. The differentiation between subjective and objective information is introduced as well as an understanding of healthcare as a delivery system and the criticality of interdependence to client outcomes. Students begin to build their professional portfolio, practice critical thinking skills, learn to demonstrate respect and interactions with a variety of diverse groups in various settings. The course offers instruction in documentation and record keeping, in the contest of health care policies and procedures, employment laws and ethical issues and practices. Interactive activities underscore the importance of emergency procedures and protocols. Students will also obtain a CPR certification including AED and FBAO and a first aid certificate prior to completion of the course. Health information management practices will be introduced and performed as directed. Instruction includes project-based research and explorations, healthcare professionals support and participation, service learning projects, extended job shadows, externships, study tours and presentations, in-class experiments and other hands-on participation
- Introduction to Health Careers
- Introduction to Health Careers is the first in the sequence of courses that will prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to help determine their interest in healthcare and further study in the health sciences. Instruction includes project-based research and explorations, healthcare professionals support and participation, on-site observations and explorations, in-class experiments and other hands-on participation. Content will focus on healthcare related mathematical computations, effective communications, professional attitudes and behaviors, orientation to safe and legal practices and teamwork. The course will also include an introduction to the use of information technology as necessary for healthcare communications. Students will also complete content that prepares them for work-based/service learning experiences that includes a certificate of completion for those meeting the assessment requirements.
